Sharing its title with the current exhibition at Sid Motion Gallery, ‘Play on Repeat’ is a short series of podcasts that interview some of London’s most exciting emerging artists working today; Louis Caulfield, Morgan Wills and Alice Irwin.
The podcasts are led by Martin Mayorga and Vanessa Murrell, co-founders of dateagleart, an online platform giving visibility to emerging artists – who invite Gallery Director and curator Sid Motion to discuss with each of these artists the themes of their works in the exhibition.
This week’s episode, the last of a three-part series, Sid Motion speaks to Alice Irwin. Alice is currently completing MA Fine Art Print at Royal College of Art, London. Alice explains how the repetition of a three-fingered hand has become a motif that repeats through her drawings and has allowed her to use the motif as a character, as well as an abstract form, to broaden her practice outside printmaking and into disciplines like sculpture and virtual reality.
All of Alice’s work is based conceptually around ideas of Play and Childhood. She speaks with Sid Motion to unpack how the works in the exhibition use colour and medium to explore these themes and how they transcend the light-hearted to delve into deeper emotional situations.
This podcast is the last of a three-part series of conversations with the artists in the exhibition ‘Play on Repeat’ at Sid Motion Gallery. The previous two conversations with Louis Caulfield and Morgan Wills are already available to listen to on iTunes.
The exhibition, ‘Play on Repeat’ is on view at Sid Motion Gallery until 17th February 2018.
